Turkey Kills Islamic State Militant on Syria Border

Turkish security forces killed a suspected Islamic State militant, and detained 21 others, while they were trying to illegally cross the border from Syria into Turkey.

The incident took place Tuesday in Kilis province in southern Turkey. Nine of those detained were children, the army said in a statement.

Turkey has sent reinforcements along its 900-kilometer border with Syria in an effort to stem the flow of extremists.

Turkey's foreign minister said Wednesday that Ankara will launch a joint operation with the United States to flush out Islamic State fighters along any part of its border with Syria.
