Statue of Liberty

Liberty's torch on display at the World’s Fair in Philadelphia in 1876 to raise money and public enthusiasm.

To test the design, the statue was first put together in a neighborhood in Paris near the Parc Monceau.

Liberty was inaugurated on October 28, 1886 in a heavy fog. Bartholdi tugged an enormous French flag from her face to reveal her to the world.
