First in a series of reports about Africa's Rising Young Stars
Young men and women between the age of 18- 21 have come together in Ghana to form theAkua Adoma Memorial Hope Foundation that focuses on helping young people afflicted with brain tumors.
The foundation was formed by a group of youth to fulfill the dying wish of Akua Adoma, a friend who suffered from the disease.
Adoma had hoped to help young Ghanaians if she survived, said a friend and foundation member, Bridget Sharon Coffie, who last year was chosen Miss Malaika Ghana.
When Adoma died, her friends decided to take up the task.

According to foundation members, awareness and support concerning brain tumor in Ghana is very low. Adoma’s friends would like to educate people about the disease and help as many people as they can through fundraising.
Shana Keller, another member of the foundation says, “We’ve been able to contribute to some of the funds needed for some children who are currently in Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to help them with their operations. We’ve also been able to give some moral support to a lot of children over there”.
They intend to go global in order to help more kids suffering from brain tumors. Even though getting funds and dealing with the families wasn’t easy, they intend to keep pushing to make their goals a reality.
