United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to attend a conference to be held in Afghanistan in July.

The conference is a follow-up to talks held in London in January, when donors pledged some $160 million for Afghanistan's plans to reintegrate Taliban fighters who renounce violence.

Afghan officials say Mr. Ban made the pledge to visit during a personal telephone call with Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai.

Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters.
