Putting the Senate races into some context: Democrats need to pick up five seats to be the majority party in the Senate (or only four if Hillary Clinton wins the presidential election because the vice president breaks any tie vote.)

So far, the only seat the Democrats have been able to flip is in Illinois, where Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq War veteran, is projected to defeat Republican incumbent Mark Kirk.

Races are close in North Carolina, Missouri, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, where Republicans currently hold the Senate seats.

Trump wins Texas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. Clinton wins New York.
